So a few weeks ago, I mentioned my friend Ryan’s project he’s working on, which is going to be a recording studio/performance space/artist commune called The Abbey down in Asheville, NC. Their first kickoff show and launch party is TONIGHT, 10:30pm at the Glasslands in Williamsburg. If you have nothing else to do, COME! Castanets, Lux Perpetua, Virgin Forest, and Lacrymosa will be performing, and J Stuart of The Cloud Room will be DJing. There will be great music and great people (read: me) there. Its $10 at the door, but I promise it will be worth it. Come find me, I’ll be the one wandering around taking pictures.
I had (a very early) dinner tonight with Ryan, who was one of my best friends in London but who I’ve barely seen since. It was really awesome to see him because he’s one of those people who I can go a while without seeing, and when we get together, it’s like no time has passed. He also has outstanding taste in food and art, and knows more about music than anyone I have ever met. I was incredibly intimidated by him until I got to know him, but he is one of the greatest people I know and he’s someone I can actually be real with all the time.
Right now he’s working on this awesome project called The Abbey—its a recording studio / creative space that’s going to be down in North Carolina. It’s been Ryan’s dream to do something like this for so long, and I’m so thrilled it’s happening. They’ve got an investor, and already a waiting list of bands that want to record there. They’re having a big show sometime in April in Brooklyn, and MIGHT have Animal Collective as their headlining act. So dope! This is the kind of thing I would really love to get involved with if it was in New York.
I’ll have more details about the show soon.
